How to prepare before a vibrational sound session

By Montse Terradas · Práctica Vibracional Barcelona

One of the most frequent questions I receive before a first session is: "Do I need to do anything special to prepare?" The short answer is no. But there are a few simple details that can help you experience it more fully.

Clothing: comfortable and soft

Wear comfortable clothing. It might seem like a minor detail, but there's a good reason: your body needs to truly relax, and tight clothing maintains a certain muscular tension even if we don't notice it. If the body doesn't let go, the sound experience loses depth.

It also affects breathing. During sessions, we seek slow, natural breathing; wearing something that constricts the abdomen or chest limits the process without meaning to. Soft, flexible clothing helps you maintain a comfortable posture throughout the session.

What to avoid beforehand

For the best experience, it's preferable to avoid heavy meals or any stimulating substances. Likewise, avoid alcohol and drugs. The idea is to arrive with your body as clean and receptive as possible.

Arrive with time to spare

It's best to arrive about 15 minutes early. That margin allows you to get there without rushing, settle into the space, and start releasing the outside pace before the session begins.

The best attitude

The best mindset is to come without expectations, simply seeking a space to let yourself feel. There's no need to prepare mentally or have any specific goal. Just be.

What to bring: your checklist

  • Mat — to lie down comfortably
  • Blanket — your body temperature drops as you relax
  • Pillow — for your head or under your knees
  • Water — for after the session, to support the process

Beyond that, you don't need anything else. No prior experience or special equipment required.

What if I have no meditation experience?

No experience or prior knowledge needed. This isn't meditation in the traditional sense. You don't have to "do" anything with your mind. Just lie down, let yourself feel, and allow the sound to find its way. I share more about what to expect at your first session.

For nervous or skeptical people

If you feel nervous or skeptical, that's completely valid. You can experience it at your own pace, without expectations. You don't need to believe in anything in particular; it's enough to be present and allow yourself to feel as far as feels comfortable.

In fact, many of the people who enjoy it most came the first time with a certain skepticism. And that's fine: sound doesn't need you to believe in it for your body to feel it. It's not a matter of faith.

Frequently asked questions

Can I come if I'm going through a difficult emotional time?

Yes. Many people find in sound a space for accompaniment. If you're going through a particularly intense moment, write to me and we'll look at it together.

Are there any contraindications?

Generally no, though there are specific situations where I'd recommend a different kind of support. If you have doubts, write to me and we'll talk about it.

Can I come even if I'm very "in my head" and find it hard to relax?

Absolutely. You don't need to know how to relax; sound doesn't require you to do anything. Many "heady" people are surprised precisely because sound allows them to let go without effort.
